Clinical medicineFunctional Medicine

A root-cause approach that looks beyond the symptom to the systems behind it, such as digestion, hormones, inflammation, blood sugar, stress and sleep, and builds one plan around you.

Overview

Conventional care is excellent at naming a condition and treating it. Functional medicine adds a different question: why is this happening, and why now? Two people with the same diagnosis can arrive there by very different paths, so their plans should differ too.

Dr. Bhakta is a Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner with a background in biochemistry and microbiology. He begins with a detailed timeline of your health, from early life to today, then uses advanced lab testing where it will change the plan. Treatment is usually a combination of nutrition, targeted supplementation, movement, sleep and stress work, introduced in a sensible order.

Who it helps

  • Persistent fatigue or low energy
  • Digestive symptoms such as bloating, reflux or irregularity
  • Hormonal and thyroid-related concerns
  • Joint pain and inflammation
  • Blood-sugar and weight concerns
  • People who want prevention, not just treatment

What to expect

  1. Timeline

A long first conversation about your history, symptoms, environment and goals.

  2. Testing

Targeted labs where they add information: blood work, and when useful, stool, hormone or nutrient testing.

  3. Plan

A prioritized plan across food, supplements, movement, sleep and stress, explained so you understand the why.

  4. Review

Follow-ups to measure progress, retest when it makes sense, and adjust.

Part of one plan

Functional medicine is the thread that ties the other services together. It informs your nutrition, coaching and supplement choices, and supports recovery when you are also in chiropractic or rehabilitation care.

Common questions

Don’t see your question? Ask at your first visit, or request a consultation.

Does functional medicine replace my primary care doctor?

No. We work alongside your medical team. Please continue prescribed medications and keep your physician informed; we are happy to share findings with them.

Is lab testing required?

Not always. We recommend tests only when the results would change what we do.

Is it covered by insurance?

Coverage varies. Some lab work may be billable to insurance; we will explain costs before anything is ordered.
