Clinical medicineChiropractic care

Precise, gentle care for the spine, joints and nervous system, combined with soft-tissue work and corrective exercise so the improvement holds between visits.

Dr. Tim Bhakta assessing a patient’s back on a treatment table

Overview

Chiropractic care uses hands-on adjustments and mobilization to restore motion to joints that are stiff or not moving well, most often in the spine. Clinical guidelines from the American College of Physicians list spinal manipulation among the first-line, non-drug options for acute and chronic low back pain.

At Arbor Creek, an adjustment is one tool among several. Dr. Bhakta has practiced since 2005 and holds a master’s degree in biomechanics and human movement, so care is built around how you move, not just where it hurts. Gentle techniques are available for people who prefer not to have the traditional “crack,” and every plan includes the exercises that keep you improving on your own.

Who it helps

  • Low back pain and sciatica-type symptoms
  • Neck pain and tension headaches
  • Stiffness and reduced range of motion
  • Posture strain from desk work or driving
  • Joint pain in the shoulders, hips and knees

What to expect

  1. Exam

History, orthopedic and neurological testing, posture and movement assessment. Imaging is ordered only when it is needed.

  2. Explain

What we found, what we recommend, how long it should take and what it will cost.

  3. Treat

Adjustments or gentle mobilization, soft-tissue work and, when useful, therapies such as laser.

  4. Strengthen

Home exercises and ergonomic changes, with visits tapering as you improve.

Part of one plan

Chiropractic care often works hand in hand with physical rehabilitation, Class IV laser therapy and, for recurring problems, a Foot Levelers™ scan to address the foundation.

Common questions

Don’t see your question? Ask at your first visit, or request a consultation.

Is chiropractic safe?

For most people it is a low-risk option. Some feel mild soreness for a day or two. We screen for conditions where adjustments are not appropriate and will refer you if another approach is safer.

Do adjustments hurt?

They should not. Many patients feel relief right away; gentle, low-force techniques are available.

How many visits will I need?

It depends on the problem. We will give you an estimate at your first visit and re-examine to make sure you are progressing.
